CHICAGO – The United Center roared as the Chicago Bulls extended their unbeaten run to five games, defeating the New York Knicks 135-125 in the NBA Cup opener on October 31.
Josh Giddey, the 21-year-old Australian sensation, was unstoppable with a career-high 32 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. The Bulls now boast their best start since the 1996-97 championship season led by Michael Jordan.
Giddey exploded in the first half with 21 points on near-perfect shooting, helping the Bulls dominate early. Chicago’s offense showed impressive depth, with six players scoring in double figures—Vucevic contributing 26, Dosunmu 22, and Buzelis 13.
The Knicks made it interesting late in the fourth, cutting the lead to just two after O.G. Anunoby’s clutch three-pointer. But Vucevic and Giddey steadied the ship, guiding Chicago to a strong finish and another statement win in the East.
New York’s Jalen Brunson led his side with 29 points, supported by Anunoby’s 26 and Karl-Anthony Towns’ 22-point, 10-rebound performance. The Knicks, however, have now dropped three straight.
Elsewhere in the league, Boston edged Philadelphia 109-108 to hand the 76ers their first loss, while Luka Doncic returned from injury with a 44-point explosion as the Lakers topped Memphis.
