Today, the Zayed National Museum was officially inaugurated in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District, marking a key highlight of the UAE's 54th Eid Al Etihad festivities. Esteemed members of the Supreme Council, rulers, crown princes, and high-ranking officials attended the celebration, paying tribute to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation’s Founding Father.
This museum narrates the history of the UAE and its citizens, from ancient epochs to modern times, utilizing cutting-edge technology, visual narratives, artefacts, and significant historical objects. Its design is inspired by the wings of a falcon, symbolizing the UAE's aspirations and its profound connection to cultural heritage.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan articulated that the museum serves as a homage to Sheikh Zayed’s leadership, vision, and humanitarian principles. He asserted that it intricately connects the UAE's history, present, and future, empowering audiences to delve into the nation’s culture and achievements across generations.
During the inauguration, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and other rulers explored the museum's galleries. The exhibits include Sheikh Zayed's personal effects, various documents, photographs, audio clips, archival videos, and archaeological treasures. With over 3,000 items, 1,500 of which are on display, the museum underscores the UAE's robust history and the evolution of its people.
The museum consists of six permanent galleries. Our Beginning showcases the life of Sheikh Zayed and the unification of the Emirates. Through Our Nature delves into the UAE’s natural beauty and sustainable practices. To Our Ancestors presents archaeological discoveries highlighting millennia of human civilization. Through Our Connections emphasizes early communities, scientific advances, and technological innovations. By Our Coasts celebrates the rich maritime traditions of the UAE. Finally, To Our Roots focuses on Emirati customs and historical economic endeavors.
Additionally, the museum accommodates temporary exhibitions and features the Al Masar Garden, an extensive 600-meter open-air gallery that depicts the UAE’s landscapes and historical narratives. A diverse cultural program has been introduced, comprising live performances, interactive workshops, guided explorations, and activities suitable for visitors of all ages, facilitating a fun and educational engagement with the UAE’s legacy.
The Zayed National Museum stands as an emblematic symbol of the UAE's achievements and aspirations. It preserves Sheikh Zayed’s enduring legacy and aims to inspire future generations to uphold the values, culture, and vision that define the nation. This landmark offers both residents and tourists a unique chance to connect with the UAE's past and witness its journey towards modernity.
