Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has declared solidarity with Afghanistan after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif, resulting in at least 20 deaths and injuring hundreds.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families and expressed hopes for a swift recovery for those wounded.
Footage issued by Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence showed military teams removing rubble and rescuing people trapped beneath collapsed buildings. The quake inflicted heavy damage across residential neighbourhoods and left many families displaced.
The United Nations mission in Afghanistan confirmed it has personnel on the ground assisting local authorities with search, rescue and relief efforts, noting on X that it remains prepared to support affected communities.
The UAE reiterated its readiness to assist Afghanistan during this crisis, reaffirming its ongoing humanitarian support to regions hit by disasters.
