UAE Halts New Visa Issuance for Ebola-Affected Countries

Post by : Raina Nasser

The UAE has made the decision to temporarily halt the issuance of new visas for individuals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan as a precaution against the Ebola virus. This announcement was made by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) alongside the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP).

The suspension is set to begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, reflecting a commitment to public safety amid growing concerns about the Ebola situations in parts of Central and East Africa. Additionally, officials indicated that the measure may be prolonged based on ongoing health assessments and updates regarding the outbreak.

All new visa requests from these three countries will fall under the UAE's suspension policy. Furthermore, travelers arriving from the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan will face entry bans in the UAE during the stated period.

The restrictions are also applicable to individuals who have recently traveled through the mentioned countries. However, an exception applies for those who have remained outside the affected regions for more than 21 consecutive days.

Cargo flights between the UAE and the three nations will continue as scheduled, and transit operations at UAE airports will not be affected, ensuring that international travel and trade remain intact.

This initiative signifies the UAE's dedication to enhancing public health safeguards and reinforcing national readiness against emerging health threats. Authorities remain vigilant regarding the Ebola outbreak, collaborating closely with both local and global health entities to make informed decisions based on risk evaluations and standardized health protocols.

The UAE's response highlights its active commitment to preventing the spread of infectious diseases and maintaining readiness for global health crises. Health officials have reassured all residents and incoming travelers that monitoring efforts will continue, with necessary measures being enacted to protect public health.

Ebola is a severe and often fatal illness transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected individuals. Nations across the globe are vigilantly managing outbreaks to prevent cross-border transmission and secure community health.
