In a remarkable display of skill, the UAE Muay Thai national team secured three medals at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh. This prestigious event brought together 3,000 athletes from 57 nations competing in a range of 14 sports. UAE competitors exhibited exceptional determination and teamwork, reinforcing the nation's growing reputation in martial arts.
Mohammed Mardi earned a gold medal in the 65–70kg category following an outstanding final bout. Zainab Bu Hamada captured silver in the 50–55kg division, while Ilyas Habibali Ali contributed a bronze in the 75–80kg category. Their outstanding performances significantly boosted the UAE’s medal counts and reflect the athletes' commitment to their discipline.
With these latest achievements, the UAE team now boasts a total of 11 medals, surpassing their previous record of 10 medals from the last event in Konya, Türkiye. The UAE currently ranks 15th overall, with a medal tally comprising two golds, one silver, and eight bronzes. Türkiye leads the medal race with 105 medals, while Uzbekistan follows with 49, and Egypt stands as the top Arab nation in fifth with 29 medals.
Mardi described his journey to winning gold as a demanding challenge that required immense focus and resolve. Representing the UAE and elevating the national flag was his primary source of inspiration. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, his coaching staff, and fellow team members for their unwavering support in reaching this milestone.
Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, Vice President of the International Federation of Muay Thai and head of the Asian, Arab, and UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federations, commended the national team's accomplishments. He stated these results signify the growing prominence of Muay Thai within the UAE and reflect the athletes’ commitment. Al Neyadi also highlighted the importance of a targeted national strategy for sports development in achieving these results.
Furthermore, Al Neyadi emphasized the contributions of coaches, support staff, and family members in nurturing the athletes' potential. Their encouragement and diligent efforts were vital to the team's success, enabling them to excel on the international stage.
This success represents a significant milestone for the UAE’s national teams, providing a powerful boost to the cultivation of young Muay Thai talent. Al Neyadi asserted that such accomplishments will further solidify the UAE’s status as a global martial arts hub, inspiring future generations to strive for excellence in the sport.
