The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the recent agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, describing it as a meaningful advance for stability and security across Southeast Asia.
The accord was signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during the ASEAN summit on October 26. It establishes a strengthened ceasefire that expands on the earlier truce brokered in July with the involvement of former U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at easing tensions and normalising diplomatic ties between the neighbouring states.
In an official release, the UAE underlined the value of using the pact as a platform for sustained dialogue and enhanced regional cooperation. Government officials stressed that solid neighbourly relations underpin peace, sustainable development and enduring prosperity in the region.
The statement also noted Malaysia’s constructive role in hosting and facilitating the talks. It highlighted that regional and international engagement helped both parties reach a mutually acceptable outcome, reinforcing wider initiatives to stabilise the area.
Analysts say the agreement not only tackles longstanding border disputes but also paves the way for deeper economic collaboration and improved diplomatic ties between Thailand and Cambodia. The pact could stimulate investment and tourism in frontier areas and contribute to ASEAN’s broader objectives of greater integration and regional harmony.
