Turkey Advocates for an International Force in Gaza to Uphold Ceasefire

Post by : Raina Nasser

Turkey has reiterated that its primary demand from the proposed International Stabilisation Force for Gaza is to guarantee the fragility of the current ceasefire, as stated by the Defence Ministry on Thursday. This declaration highlights Turkey's significant involvement in regional mediation, especially in light of the persistent conflict and humanitarian crises.

A member of NATO, Turkey has been outspoken against Israel’s military operations in Gaza over the past two years, labeling them as a form of genocide. The nation has expressed a strong desire to take part in the stabilisation force, aimed at offering oversight and safeguarding civilians, despite facing objections from Israel.

The suggested International Stabilisation Force is designed to oversee the ceasefire, prevent future confrontations, and enable the flow of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. Turkish representatives have emphasized that their role is vital for ensuring accountability and the sustainable success of the truce.

Turkey's Defence Ministry pointed out that its involvement in this force would contribute significantly to protecting civilians, bolstering ceasefire commitments, and enhancing overall regional tranquility. This initiative positions Turkey as a key mediator in global efforts to avert further conflict and tackle the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

As tensions persist in Gaza, international observers are paying close attention to Turkey’s ambition to participate in the stabilisation force, hoping that it can serve as a reliable guarantee for enduring peace.
