Trump Says Russia Will Pause Attacks on Kyiv During Extreme Winter Cold

Post by : Saif Nasser

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Russia will temporarily stop bombing Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, because of extreme winter weather. According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to pause attacks for one week as freezing temperatures continue to create dangerous conditions for civilians.

Trump made this statement during a public meeting, saying he personally requested the pause because of the severe cold affecting Ukraine. He described the weather as unusually harsh and said continuing attacks during such conditions would worsen the suffering of ordinary people. However, Russia has not officially confirmed this pause, and no clear details have been shared about how the halt would be carried out.

Ukraine is currently facing one of its toughest winters in years. Temperatures in some areas have dropped far below zero, while many cities are struggling with damaged power and heating systems. Repeated strikes on energy infrastructure have left homes without electricity, heat, or running water. In Kyiv and other regions, families are using generators, blankets, and emergency shelters to survive the cold.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed any step that could reduce violence, especially during winter. He said even a short pause could help repair damaged infrastructure and protect lives. Still, Ukrainian officials remain cautious, as similar promises in the past have not always been kept.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on since February 2022. Millions of people have been displaced, and thousands of civilians have lost their lives. Winter has made the humanitarian crisis worse, especially for children, the elderly, and those living in damaged homes.

International observers say that if the pause happens, it could provide brief relief but will not change the overall direction of the war. A one-week halt does not mean peace, and fighting could resume once weather conditions improve. Experts also note that without clear monitoring or written agreements, such pauses are difficult to enforce.

Human rights groups have repeatedly warned that winter attacks on power stations and heating systems can turn cold weather into a deadly threat. A temporary stop in bombing could allow aid groups to deliver supplies and help restore basic services.

For now, the world is watching closely. Ukraine hopes the pause will be real and respected, while many remain unsure whether the fighting will truly stop, even for a short time. The situation highlights how weather, politics, and war remain tightly linked, with civilians often paying the highest price.
