The latest installment of The Family Man faced heightened expectations. With a saturated OTT landscape in India, producing a compelling and cohesive season is challenging. Season 3 largely meets these demands, delivering excitement, humor, and relatable family dynamics, but occasionally falls into predictability and relies on clichéd cliffhanger endings.
Shrikant Tiwari (Manoj Bajpayee) juggles his troubled marriage with Suchi (Priyamani) and parenting his clever children (Ashlesha Thakur and Vedant Sinha). A critical incident in the North East forces him, along with his family and assistant JK (Sharib Hashmi), to flee. With his agency on his trail, Shrikant must thwart the dangerous smuggler and assassin Rukma (Jaideep Ahlawat), who is orchestrating a significant attack in collaboration with international agent Meera (Nimrat Kaur).
The essence of The Family Man remains intact, with humor and suspense continuing to flourish; the witty exchanges between Shrikant and JK are particularly enjoyable. The series skillfully tracks character development, showcasing their evolving personal lives. Supporting figures like JK and Zoya (Shreya Dhanwanthary) gain increased dimensionality, while Rukma emerges as a complex adversary—ruthless yet relatable, circumventing the pitfalls of a simplistic villain archetype.
Manoj Bajpayee continues to impress, skillfully portraying Shrikant's internal struggles while maintaining his charismatic persona. Jaideep Ahlawat contrasts beautifully as Rukma, providing both intensity and depth to his character. Meanwhile, Sharib Hashmi’s partnership with Manoj adds an extra layer of charm, with Seema Biswas making a noteworthy appearance as Prime Minister Basu.
However, the season does have its flaws. Some humor feels over-engineered for social media appeal, leading to predictable moments in certain scenes. The series finalizes with an unexpectedly abrupt cliffhanger, leaving viewers without closure—a first for its run. Despite offering entertainment throughout, the unsatisfying conclusion left a sense of discontent.
Overall, The Family Man Season 3 continues to engage with its unique blend of humor, suspense, and strong acting. Yet, its predictability and unresolved cliffhanger prevent it from quite reaching the heights of its predecessors.
