Thailand has officially introduced the 2026 iteration of the “Youth Preserving Thai Music” initiative, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, at a formal event in Bangkok. This program is designed to engage young individuals with traditional Thai music while fostering creativity, discipline, and confidence through musical endeavors.
The launch occurred on May 15, 2026, at the Phannana Building in Bangkok’s Dusit District, gathering government officials, music educators, artists, committee members, and enthusiastic youth from around the nation to celebrate this cultural movement.
As per statements from government representatives, this project encompasses competitions and performances in various music genres, including Luk Krung, Luk Thung, and contemporary Thai styles. The initiative is structured to preserve Thailand’s cultural legacy while offering avenues for gifted young musicians to shine.
During the event, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul highlighted the significant role that music plays in the development of essential life skills among the youth, emphasizing that musical activities foster discipline, accountability, teamwork, creativity, and self-expression, ultimately enhancing self-confidence.
The Prime Minister further noted that traditional Thai music encapsulates the nation’s language, lifestyle, and cultural richness. He mentioned that musical pieces from various eras assist young people in appreciating Thai identity and instill a sense of pride in the country’s heritage and traditions.
Anutin also reflected on the impressive talent and enthusiasm exhibited by students during last year's competition. He affirmed that this project serves as a vital platform for motivating youth and creating positive pathways for future generations throughout Thailand.
Authorities remarked upon the robust collaboration among public institutions, educators, musicians, and cultural entities backing the program. They believe that this synergy will be crucial for the ongoing success and development of the cultural initiative.
The Thai government reiterated its dedication to nurturing programs that enhance youth development while safeguarding national heritage and cultural values. Officials are optimistic that this initiative will broaden its reach and inspire more youth to immerse themselves in Thai music and performing arts.
As the event drew to a close, Prime Minister Anutin took to the stage with performers to sing the cherished Thai song “Kho Phop Nai Fan,” originally performed by the renowned Suntaraporn band, drawing enthusiastic applause from the participating students, artists, and guests.
