Sydney Sweeney's latest project, Christy, has not fared well at the box office, furthering concerns about her recent film endeavors. Released on November 7, the biopic about boxing champion Christy Martin has hit record lows, becoming one of the least successful wide-releases in Hollywood.
Directed by David Michôd, Christy was made available on 2,184 screens across North America, but it managed to pull in just $1.31 million during its opening weekend, averaging approximately $600 per screen over three days. This positions Christy among the bottom 10 worst box office openings for a wide release in the region, not counting re-releases. The film’s performance is particularly striking, considering that even many pandemic-era films outperformed it. Previously, The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure (2012) held the title for the worst opening, grossing only $444,000.
Internationally, the reception has also been lackluster, contributing around $39,000 to its earnings outside of North America. Overall, the film's total gross stands at a disappointing $1.35 million after three days, especially concerning given its reported production budget of over $15 million, indicating likely financial losses ahead.
