Christmas Without Their Father: Sunjay Kapur’s Children Remember Him Through Polo Jerseys

Post by : Saif Nasser

Christmas is usually a time of joy, warmth, and family togetherness. This year, however, the festival carried a quiet note of remembrance for Samaira and Kiaan, the children of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur and actor Karisma Kapoor. Spending Christmas with the Pataudi family, the siblings seemed to honor their father’s memory in a touching and simple way.

Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan shared glimpses of the family’s Christmas celebration on social media. One picture showed a decorated Christmas tree with an ornament that read “Christmas at the Pataudis.” Another image showed Samaira and Kiaan from behind, both wearing matching jerseys from their father’s polo club. Kareena lovingly called them her “Christmas angels,” a gesture that touched many hearts.

The jerseys carried special meaning. They belonged to Aureus Polo, the polo team founded and captained by Sunjay Kapur. The team earned recognition by winning championships in India, the United States, and the United Kingdom. By wearing these jerseys, Samaira and Kiaan appeared to be holding on to a part of their father’s passion and legacy during a time when his absence is deeply felt.

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, at the age of 53. He collapsed during a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, United Kingdom. Reports later said that he suffered an anaphylactic shock after accidentally swallowing a bee that stung him inside his mouth. His sudden death shocked many across business, sports, and social circles.

Sunjay’s personal life had been widely followed. He was first married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani. He later married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and they welcomed Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2010. After a long legal process, the couple separated in 2016. In 2017, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, and they have a son named Azarius.

After Sunjay Kapur’s death, a legal dispute arose over his large estate. Karisma Kapoor moved the Delhi High Court, claiming that Sunjay’s will had been forged. These allegations were denied by Priya Sachdev’s legal team. Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, also raised concerns, alleging that her son’s financial assets were not being fully disclosed. Recently, the Delhi High Court concluded hearings in the case and reserved its order, which will play a key role in deciding the future of the inheritance dispute.

Amid legal battles and public attention, the image of Samaira and Kiaan wearing their father’s polo jerseys stands out for its quiet emotion. It reflects how children remember their parent not through words, but through small, meaningful gestures. This Christmas, their tribute spoke of love, loss, and a bond that remains strong even after death.
