SpiceJet Flight Safely Lands in Kolkata Due to Engine Issue

Post by : Raina Nasser

A SpiceJet flight traveling from Mumbai to Kolkata executed a secure emergency landing late Sunday night after encountering a technical issue with one of its engines, as confirmed by airport officials. Flight SG670, with over 170 passengers aboard, landed at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 11:38 pm following the pilot's declaration of a full emergency.

Officials reported that all passengers and crew remained unharmed, and the emergency status was lifted soon after the safe landing. Response teams were ready on-site to ensure a smooth landing.

The pilot noticed irregular engine behavior right before descending and quickly communicated with air traffic control. SpiceJet has announced an internal review to investigate the precise cause of the engine failure.

Kolkata Airport representatives remarked: “The flight has landed safely, and the full emergency status was lifted at 11:38 pm.”

This incident follows earlier disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where at least 100 flights faced delays due to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) system malfunction. SpiceJet had advised travelers of potential delays, stating, “ATC congestion in Delhi may impact all Departures/Arrivals and subsequent flights. Passengers should monitor their flight status on spicejet.com.”

This isn’t the first time SpiceJet has dealt with in-flight technical problems. On September 12, a Q400 aircraft flying from Kandla to Mumbai made an emergency landing after a wheel detached during takeoff. Fortunately, the flight landed safely with all passengers exiting without issues.

SpiceJet reiterates that all emergency landings adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), prioritizing the safety of passengers.

All passengers aboard Flight SG670 were confirmed safe, and normal flight operations resumed promptly following the incident.
