His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has formally launched the Games of the Future Abu Dhabi 2025. Scheduled from December 18 to 23 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the inaugural event was graced by His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, along with numerous dignitaries and leaders. Sheikh Mohamed expressed a warm welcome to all participants, wishing them success in this renowned international sporting event.
Sheikh Mohamed underscored that the Games of the Future exemplify the UAE's evolving status as a prominent global center for innovation and sport's future dynamics. This event is a unique blend of conventional athletics and cutting-edge technology, crafted to deliver a novel sporting experience tailored for the youth of tomorrow. He also emphasized the UAE's role as a welcoming space where young individuals globally can meet, share insights, and engage in friendly competition.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of key UAE figures, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as ministers and prominent international delegation leaders. Notable attendees included Her Excellency Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and other esteemed guests.
This year's Games of the Future has attracted over 850 athletes from more than 60 countries. By merging live physical contests with digital gaming formats, the event presents hybrid competitions that evaluate both athletic and digital competencies. This edition showcases one of the most diverse and competitive assemblies of athletes seen to date, highlighting the fusion of technology and traditional sports.
The opening celebration included the UAE national anthem, captivating visual displays, and storytelling that honored the athletes and their journeys. The use of advanced technologies was prevalent throughout the event, aligning with the overarching theme of innovation in sports.
In his address, His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai stressed the UAE's commitment to innovation, empowering youth, and nurturing future-ready talents. He noted that the Games of the Future encompass more than mere competition and reflect the realities of the modern youth, who navigate both physical and digital realms. Hosting this event reinforces Abu Dhabi's position as a worldwide hub for hybrid sports and impactful innovation.
