Severe Weather Alert Across Malaysian States

Severe Weather Alert Across Malaysian States

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather alert as thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are set to affect numerous regions until late evening. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and take preventive measures, as unpredictable weather could hinder travel and daily routines.

Severe weather is anticipated in at least ten states and federal territories. Specifically, Kedah's affected areas include Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, and Kulim. Numerous districts in Perak—such as Larut, Matang, Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, and Kampar—are also forecasted to face heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Weather authorities have issued warnings for residents in Kelantan and Terengganu, where strong storms are expected in Gua Musang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman. In Pahang, the warning extends to regions like Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan, and Pekan. Meteorologists caution that these weather conditions could lead to intense rainfall over short durations, elevating the risk of flash floods and other disruptions.

Further alerts have been issued for parts of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor, with places like Hulu Selangor, Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Tampin, Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru facing unstable weather throughout the evening. Drivers are advised to exercise caution owing to decreased visibility and slippery roads amid heavy rainfall.

In East Malaysia, several districts in Sarawak and Sabah are also in line to experience thunderstorms and strong winds. MetMalaysia's warning covers areas such as Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Miri, and Limbang in Sarawak. In Sabah, weather risks loom over the Interior Division, West Coast areas including Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran, as well as Tawau and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Experts highlight that while Malaysia faces thunderstorms and heavy rainfall during seasonal transitions, sudden storms coupled with strong winds pose risks to public safety, transport, and infrastructure. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may release further advisories if conditions deteriorate.

Residents in affected regions are encouraged to keep abreast of updates via official weather sources and refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities during severe weather. Officials are also advising those in flood-prone areas to maintain preparedness for potential rising water levels or emergency evacuations. This latest warning underscores the significance of weather readiness as shifting climate patterns are leading to more frequent extreme weather events in Southeast Asia.
