The Indian stock market started the week with a small gain on Monday, September 15, 2025, but later faced ups and downs as traders booked profits after a strong rally last week. Investors are now watching closely for this week’s U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting, which could influence global markets.
In the early hours of trading, the BSE Sensex, which tracks 30 major companies, rose by 93.81 points to 81,998.51, while the NSE Nifty 50, representing 50 top companies, inched up 24.45 points to 25,138.45.
However, the markets could not hold on to these gains for long. By later in the day, Sensex fell 10.06 points to 81,904.31, and Nifty dropped 12.65 points to 25,099.90, showing that investors were cautious and selling some shares to secure profits.
Among the top gainers on the Sensex were Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Power Grid, Eternal, and State Bank of India, while companies like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Sun Pharma, and Tech Mahindra were among the ones that lost ground.
Asian markets showed positive trends, with South Korea’s Kospi, China’s SSE Composite, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng all trading higher. Meanwhile, the U.S. stock markets ended last Friday on a mixed note, with some indices closing higher and others lower.
Last week, Indian markets performed strongly. The Sensex gained 1,193.94 points or 1.47%, while Nifty rose 373 points or 1.50%. Over the last eight trading days, Nifty has climbed 534.4 points or 2.17%, showing a steady uptrend in the market.
Global oil prices also showed a small rise. Brent crude, the international benchmark, went up 0.60% to $67.39 per barrel, which can influence fuel prices and investor sentiment.
Foreign investors were net buyers in the Indian stock market on Friday, purchasing shares worth ₹129.58 crore, reflecting confidence in India’s growth potential despite global uncertainties.
Analysts say that this week’s market movement will largely depend on the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions in the United States, as any change in interest rates or guidance can impact global funds flow, currency markets, and the performance of Indian stocks.
In summary, Indian markets are experiencing volatile trading, where early gains are offset by profit-taking. Investors are advised to watch global trends, oil prices, and foreign investor activity closely. The market’s behavior this week will likely set the tone for the next few weeks of trading.
