Abu Dhabi Welcomes 1,000 Seniors for 2026 Masters Games

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Abu Dhabi is gearing up for a significant event as the Open Masters Games 2026 announces the inclusion of 1,000 senior participants, facilitated by the Family Development Foundation in collaboration with Barakat Al Dar Social Clubs. This announcement was made during the 8th Forum for Senior Citizens, coinciding with the International Day of Older Persons.

This initiative encapsulates a rising emphasis on active ageing and community involvement, in line with the Masters Games' mission to include athletes from diverse backgrounds. The competition is open to individuals aged 30 and older, with swimming events accepting participants from age 25, and it fosters an environment free of skill level restrictions, promoting lifelong engagement in sports.

The Family Development Foundation’s role seeks to broaden the horizons for older participants, allowing them to engage in an international sports atmosphere while encouraging health, activity, and social interactions. Barakat Al Dar Social Clubs will be pivotal in motivating senior participants to partake confidently in the Games.

Scheduled for 6 to 15 February 2026, the Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi will be the largest multi-sport event ever to take place in the Middle East, with over 25,000 athletes anticipated to participate across more than 30 sports, including six traditional sports that reflect the UAE's rich cultural heritage.

With its inclusive vision and comprehensive sports offerings, the Abu Dhabi Masters Games aims to foster community unity, enhance social wellbeing, and solidify the capital’s reputation as a premier global sports hub.
