Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain incarcerated longer than first anticipated, as updates show a new release date. The 56-year-old music impresario, currently serving a 50-month sentence for prostitution-related offenses, is now expected to be freed on June 4, 2028, instead of the earlier date of May 8, 2028. Federal authorities have not disclosed specific reasons for this nearly four-week delay.
Conviction Overview
Combs was convicted on two charges related to federal transport for prostitution, which were sentenced in July 2024. Following a court order in October 2024, he received a 50-month prison term. Since September 2024, he has been incarcerated, initially at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn before moving to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
Incidents During Incarceration
In his first week at FCI Fort Dix, reports indicated that Combs was discovered with homemade liquor, created from a combination of Fanta soda, sugar, and apples. Although there was consideration for transferring him to a different unit due to this breach, no action was ultimately enforced.
His spokesperson categorically denied any violations, asserting that he “has not breached any prison regulations” and is committed to maintaining sobriety and self-discipline during his confinement.
Another reported issue entailed Combs engaging in a three-way phone call, which is restricted by the Bureau of Prisons unless one party is an attorney. His representatives clarified that the call included his legal counsel and was protected under privileged communication.
Programs and Legal Strategy
During his time at FCI Fort Dix, Combs is participating in a drug treatment program and is also employed in the chapel library, as per his representatives. His legal team is preparing to appeal the sentence, claiming that Judge Arun Subramanian overstepped his authority in the October sentencing session.
Despite prosecutors pushing for an 11-year sentence, the jury acquitted Combs of charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering. His defense team argued for a significantly reduced sentence of about 14 months.
Currently, the official release date stands at June 4, 2028. Any adjustments to this timeline will be communicated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons as they arise. Combs' ongoing legal disputes may further influence the duration of his confinement, but indeed, he will remain in prison for the foreseeable future.
