Camel Festival Celebrates Saudi Heritage with Traditional Crafts

Post by : Mara Rahim

At the tenth annual King Abdulaziz Camel Festival in Al-Sayahid, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's pavilion has captivated attendees with its array of handcrafted artifacts, traditional al-sadu weaving, and heritage garments that illuminate the depth of Saudi culture. Artisan Helail bin Rizqallah Al-Harthi, who has dedicated nearly 30 years to this craft, specializes in intricate embroidery and weaving with materials like pure silk and goat-hair threads.

Al-Harthi commended the country's unwavering commitment to the preservation of heritage, noting the surging interest in handmade products over the recent years. He expressed gratitude to the ministry for facilitating a venue to highlight the nation's craft traditions.

The SPA team also interviewed Munirah Al-Rabeeah, a trainer focused on traditional attire, who has beautifully recreated historical garments inspired by renowned Saudi women, such as Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman and Ghaliyya Al-Bogammiah. Her collection encompasses various items including the striped Najdi mutaffat, Taif’s mubaqar, Hijazi mussaddah, men’s daglah, and women’s egal.

Guests at the pavilion can explore an extensive range of traditional creations, showcasing garments, weaving techniques, cultural artifacts, and artistic works that celebrate Saudi heritage in its many forms. The festival serves as a vital platform to honor and sustain the country's rich cultural identity.

The ministry's pavilion has emerged as a focal point, attracting crowds keen to discover the traditional arts, craftsmanship, and the dedication of artisans who preserve these cultural legacies for times to come.
