Sania Mirza Marks 39 Years: A Journey Through Motherhood and New Beginnings

Post by : Mina Rahman

Today, Sania Mirza celebrates reaching her 39th year. When reflecting on her experiences, she muses, “Wiser? I’m not sure, but undoubtedly more patient. I’ve learned to savor the little joys in life.” Although she’s not one for big celebrations, she enjoys quiet moments with close family and friends, cherishing time spent together on her special day.

Her son Izhaan, whom she co-parents with her ex-husband Shoaib Malik, brings her immense joy. “I’m incredibly proud of the kind-hearted young man he is becoming. His empathic nature and unconditional love have transformed me into a better mother,” she expresses with a smile.

On whether Izhaan shows an interest in sports, she says, “Questions about his sporting future have always been there since pregnancy. He’s a natural athlete, enjoying football, tennis, swimming, and even playing the drums. My only wish is for him to pursue what he loves wholeheartedly, just as I was raised to do.”

Sania reflects fondly on life post-tennis, stating, “The beauty of being a former athlete is the chance to retire young and explore new avenues. I feel fortunate to embrace this chapter. We’ve launched a new podcast, I’m diving into pickleball, and I run my own tennis academy. My passion for mentorship and motivational speaking continues to thrive as well.”

When discussing a potential return to competitive tennis, Sania firmly notes, “After 20 years as a professional, I knew I was done with that chapter, physically and emotionally. During my pregnancy, many wondered why I didn’t retire—deep down, I knew I’d return. However, after my final retirement, I recognized I wouldn’t be able to perform at my best again. So, a comeback isn’t in my future plans.”
