In a pivotal change to its leadership structure, Samsung Electronics has appointed TM Roh, the head of its mobile division, as co-CEO and head of the device experience segment. This decision returns the company to its traditional dual-CEO approach, permitting distinct oversight of chip and consumer sectors following a period with a single CEO.
Since April, Roh has served as the acting leader of Samsung's consumer division after the unexpected death of co-CEO Han Jong-Hee in March. He will officially manage the company’s smartphone, TV, and home appliance operations, enhancing the firm's consumer-centric focus in a fiercely competitive marketplace.
This leadership shift follows Samsung’s recent upgrade of its business support office into a more influential strategy department, crucial for coordinating decisions across its various businesses—from semiconductors to consumer electronics and more.
By reinstating the co-CEO format, Samsung aims for better operational oversight among its significant business segments, allowing for increased focus and nimbleness. This decision underscores the company’s dedication to effective leadership amid the ongoing challenges in the global technology landscape.
Samsung's strategic move underscores its emphasis on fortifying its consumer divisions under seasoned guidance, continuing its established tradition of innovation and leadership in the market.
