Major Mobility Enhancements Made by RTA in Al Quoz Creative Zone

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has successfully finalized extensive infrastructure projects in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, a significant move towards establishing this area as a premier integrated creative district on a global scale.

These initiatives, part of a broader master plan, are designed to enhance connectivity, promote transport integration, and align with Dubai’s objective of cultivating pedestrian-friendly, sustainable urban settings. The Creative Zone aims to serve as an international haven for creatives, entrepreneurs, and investors, fostering an ecosystem for the entire creative process—from conception to execution and public showcasing.

This district will also offer affordable living and working spaces, quality public areas, and specialized venues for cultural and artistic activities, solidifying its role as a leading destination for cultural, educational, and recreational engagements.

Improvement Projects: New Bridge and Mobility Hubs

Among the notable developments is the new pedestrian and cycling bridge on Al Manara Street, designed to enhance safety and promote smooth transit for pedestrians and cyclists while aligning with the area's architectural aesthetics.

The bridge spans 45 meters in length and 5.5 meters in width, with a height of 6 meters. It features two ramps that extend 210 meters each, ensuring full accessibility and user-friendliness.

Additionally, RTA has established three mobility hubs and a total of four kilometers of pedestrian and cycling paths. These routes effectively link the Al Quoz Creative Zone to Onpassive Metro Station and Al Quoz Bus Station, thereby facilitating seamless movement for residents, workers, and visitors across different modes of transportation.

Innovation through Super Blocks

Preparations have also been completed for the Super Blocks project within the Creative Zone, part of Dubai’s wider initiative to expand pedestrian pathways throughout the emirate.

This innovative approach creates adaptable urban spaces for art events and cultural festivals by temporarily closing certain streets and transforming them into pedestrian-friendly zones. One of the inaugural events benefiting from this initiative is the upcoming Al Quoz Arts Festival, taking place on January 24 and 25, organized by Alserkal Avenue in collaboration with Dubai Culture.

The Super Blocks project aligns with the objectives outlined in the Year of the Family, Dubai Social Agenda 33, and Dubai Urban Plan 2040 by enhancing social cohesion, improving life quality, and fostering vibrant public areas.

It also supports the 20-Minute City vision, promoting a modal shift towards walking, cycling, and environmentally sustainable transportation options, thus aiding in the mission to create a greener, healthier, and lower-carbon urban framework.

RTA's Commitment to an Integrated Transport System

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA and Vice Chairman of the Higher Committee of Al Quoz Creative Zone, emphasized that the successful completion of these initiatives represents RTA’s dedication to an integrated transport network that mitigates reliance on private vehicles while boosting urban mobility efficiency.

He pointed out that connecting the Al Quoz Creative Zone to metro and bus infrastructures, along with developing a comprehensive network of pedestrian and cycling pathways, is integral to broader RTA efforts to promote human-centric mobility solutions throughout Dubai.

Al Tayer remarked that the new pedestrian and cycling bridge on Al Manara Street significantly enhances safety and traffic management while emphasizing sustainable transport priorities. The new mobility hubs provide internal pathways that foster an accessible urban environment, encouraging walking and community interaction.

A Cultural Model for Economic Growth in Dubai

Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, remarked that Al Quoz Creative Zone exemplifies Dubai's goal to embed culture as a central pillar of economic advancement, solidifying the emirate’s reputation as an international center for creativity and talent.

She outlined that the zone provides an inclusive atmosphere that supports creatives, entrepreneurs, and investors, while the enhancement of transportation and mobility options will further elevate its appeal and accessibility.

Moreover, Dubai Culture will diligently promote the area through cultural initiatives and programs designed to spotlight opportunities within the creative industries.

A Vision for Future Growth

According to the comprehensive development plan, the Al Quoz Creative Zone is anticipated to experience substantial growth, with projections estimating the number of creatives to surge from 900 to 20,000. The area is expected to accommodate 8,000 residents and attract approximately 33,000 visitors daily.

The master plan further includes a tenfold rise in studio and workshop environments, a threefold increase in leisure and support facilities, and a 30% growth in leasable spaces. Ultimately, Al Quoz Creative Zone is aimed to be recognized among the largest creative districts globally, based on built area and practitioner count.

Creating Distinctive Urban Environments

A new planning framework has been introduced to develop integrated live-work setups, including 2,900 affordable housing units designated for creatives. The design strongly prioritizes public spaces for exhibitions, performances, and cultural functions.

The district will see alleys converted into shaded pathways, while communal areas will be utilized for social gatherings and artistic displays. The area will also showcase sculptures, murals, and designated art paths while retaining Al Quoz’s industrial heritage by repurposing existing warehouses for creative initiatives.

With its new transport infrastructure established, Al Quoz Creative Zone is now set to emerge as one of Dubai’s most connected, walkable, and culturally vibrant districts, becoming a notable global hub for the creative economy.
