Delay Announced for Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Release

Post by : Mina Rahman

Fans eagerly anticipating the movie adaptation of The Summer I Turned Pretty were hopeful for a Christmas release following the announcement made right after the conclusion of Season 3. However, creator Jenny Han has put those expectations to rest, emphasizing that such a timeline is unfeasible.

Jenny revealed that while the screenplay is finalized, filming has yet to commence. She noted that the production phase is currently on hold, rendering a holiday premiere in 2025 an impossibility.

The third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty debuted in July, with post-production efforts continuing up until its airing. Due to the demanding schedule, there was no opportunity for Jenny and her team to prepare for or commence the shooting of the film. Their priority was to conclude the season, thereby leaving the movie project to proceed only afterward.

The forthcoming film will extend the narrative from Season 3, delving into the intricate emotional relationships among Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. Jenny has hinted that Belly, played by Lola Tung, will encounter a pivotal moment in her life, as she navigates new challenges and decisions.

Despite the excitement surrounding the film, specific details remain scarce—even for the cast. Lola Tung previously mentioned that she hasn’t seen the script, although she is aware Jenny has a completed draft. Christopher Briney humorously expressed relief at not being part of the writing process, joking that he might add some “silly elements.”

While the film is confirmed to progress, fans should be patient. Jenny Han aims to take the necessary time to craft the next chapter at Cousins Beach, making sure the movie encapsulates the rich emotions and sensibilities that contributed to the series' success.
