Qatar Participates in 49th Meeting of Arab Police and Security Leaders

Post by : Mara Rahim

Qatar recently participated in the 49th Conference of Arab Police and Security Leaders, held at the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis, Tunisia's capital. This significant regional assembly convened high-ranking security officials from across the Arab nations to tackle emerging challenges, assess progress, and reinforce collaboration in policing and internal security.

The Qatari delegation was headed by Major General Mohammed Jassim Al Sulaiti, Director-General of Public Security. His presence underscored Qatar's dedication to bolstering regional security initiatives, sharing valuable expertise, and staying informed about contemporary security matters in the Arab world. This conference is one of the pivotal annual events for Arab ministries of the interior and law enforcement bodies, serving as a venue for collaboration and the exchange of effective policing methods.

One of the critical subjects addressed during the conference was the escalating threat of synthetic drugs. These substances are proving to be a significant challenge for many nations due to their easy production and rapid distribution. Participants explored the latest developments in manufacturing and trafficking, aiming to enhance early detection and prevention measures. Moreover, strategies were discussed to increase awareness, monitor emerging chemical agents, and strengthen collaborative efforts among Arab nations to mitigate the proliferation of these hazardous substances.

Another essential aspect of the conference entailed reviewing the recommendations from the previous year's gathering. Member countries shared their updates on implementing those suggestions, such as improving information sharing, enhancing police training programs, and adopting new technologies to reinforce security operations. These follow-up sessions provided countries an opportunity to assess their advancements and identify areas requiring further support or enhanced coordination.

The event also allowed participating nations to highlight their exemplary security initiatives. Such sessions provided leaders with the platform to showcase successful strategies in crime prevention, cybersecurity, traffic safety, and community policing. By exchanging these insights, the conference bolstered the shared knowledge of Arab law enforcement agencies and promoted the integration of modern and effective security practices throughout the region.

Additionally, attendees reviewed the 2025 report from the Arab Police Sports Federation, incorporating updates on athletic activities, competitions, and future plans to enhance physical fitness among police officers in Arab nations. Sports initiatives are crucial as they foster teamwork, discipline, and overall health within security forces, making them integral to police development agendas.

The conference also initiated preliminary discussions for the upcoming 50th edition of the Arab Police and Security Leaders Conference, set for 2026. Topics included anticipated challenges and strategies for reinforcing collaboration among Arab ministries of the interior. By planning in advance, this conference seeks to establish a more efficient framework for ongoing partnerships and bolster regional security.

Participation in the 49th conference symbolizes Qatar's ongoing commitment to strengthening regional security, supporting joint Arab initiatives, and adhering to global policing standards. Through proactive involvement in such discourse, Qatar remains a key player in enhancing security cooperation, improving preparedness, and ensuring the safety of communities across the Arab region.
