Qatar Reinforces Commitment to Gaza Ceasefire and Stability

Post by : Mara Rahim

Dr. Majed Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed Qatar's unwavering commitment to maintaining a stable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. During a weekly media briefing, he noted Qatar's close monitoring of the ceasefire's implementation through the Joint Monitoring Room in Cairo and its collaborative work with various mediation partners.

Dr. Al Ansari emphasized the serious nature of the recorded ceasefire violations, stating that these breaches are alarming and merit Qatar's utmost attention. He indicated that monitoring teams are dedicated to ensuring the ceasefire remains intact, with ongoing communications among all parties aiming for the next phase of the agreement, despite the absence of formal progress reports. Moreover, he acknowledged supportive comments from US officials regarding the ongoing ceasefire.

He reaffirmed Qatar's robust efforts in collaboration with international allies, expressing optimism regarding the US President’s initiative and lauding the American stance in backing peace initiatives. Dr. Al Ansari cautioned that the persistent violations pose risks not only to the ceasefire but also to broader regional peace, a concern shared with all mediation partners.

The spokesperson also underlined Qatar's involvement in brokering talks between Venezuela and the United States, including facilitating a recent hostage exchange. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to closely monitor the developments and support dialogue between the two nations, offering assistance as necessary.

On the topic of journalists in Gaza, he remarked on the severe plight faced by members of the press during the conflict, emphasizing that the killing of journalists obstructs the global awareness of the situation. Qatar consistently advocates for the protection of media personnel against direct targeting.

Dr. Al Ansari also noted that the forthcoming GCC Summit in Manama will address various regional challenges, particularly the security threats confronting Gulf nations. Concerning Qatar’s role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he stated that Qatar has diligently supported mediation efforts and facilitated the reunion of over 115 affected children with their families.

Finally, he highlighted significant diplomatic discussions held by Qatar over the past week, focusing on cooperation, humanitarian aid, and regional coordination. He concluded by reiterating Qatar’s steadfast belief in resolving conflicts through peaceful negotiations and dialogue.
