On November 19, 2025, Prince William and Kate Middleton made a touching return to the red carpet during the esteemed Royal Variety Performance held in London. This event was particularly special as it marked their first appearance on the red carpet in two years, following Kate's battle with cancer. Hosted at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, the performance benefits the Royal Variety Charity, which supports those in the entertainment industry.
The Princess of Wales dazzled in a green velvet gown with short sleeves and a V-neck while Prince William looked sharp in a black velvet suit jacket paired with a bow tie. The evening was made even more special by a performance of the national anthem by Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins, setting a celebratory tone for the royal couple's return.
This marked the couple's sixth attendance at the Royal Variety Performance. A meaningful moment unfolded when Kate Middleton met fellow cancer survivor and singer Jessie J, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and support among those who have faced health challenges.
Having completed her chemotherapy in September 2024, Kate had limited public appearances over the past year. During the event, she expressed her delight at returning, stating it was “so nice to be back.” Among the first to greet them were James Max and James Ainscough, President and CEO of the Royal Albert Hall.
Adding an element of fun to the night, they met the beloved character Paddington Bear. Nine-year-old twins Emelie and Olivia Edwards presented Kate with a bouquet of flowers. In a lighthearted moment, she asked the twins if they liked Paddington and joked that her own children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—would be disappointed to miss out on meeting him. “My kiddies will be very sad. We are going to have to keep it a big secret,” she remarked with a smile. She also took the time to shake hands with the twins, thanking them for the lovely flowers.
This appearance signifies a major milestone in Kate's recovery journey and her joyful return to the public sphere. It also showcases the couple’s ongoing commitment to charitable endeavors within the entertainment sector while managing their family obligations. The Royal Variety Performance provides a vital opportunity for them to engage with artists and audiences, celebrating the arts and raising funds for those in need.
The return of Kate Middleton and Prince William to the public eye symbolizes hope and resilience, illustrating that after enduring personal challenges, life and service can continue with elegance, warmth, and celebration.
