Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu – November 19, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the South India Natural Farming Summit in Coimbatore today, showcasing India's commitment to organic and sustainable agriculture. The three-day event, running until November 21, gathers over 5,000 farmers, agricultural specialists, and supporters to honor the natural farming methods advocated by the late Nammalvar.

Throughout the summit, PM Modi interacted with local farmers involved in natural farming and recognized ten outstanding individuals for their contributions to eco-friendly agriculture. In a significant update, he unveiled the 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, worth Rs 18,000 crore, benefiting nearly 9 crore farmers nationwide.

Coimbatore, known as the "Manchester of South India" for its industrial stature, has transformed for the summit, with important traffic diversions on the busy Avinashi Road. This route will be closed from noon to 4 PM, with trucks prohibited from entering the city between 8 AM and 8 PM. Security measures at Coimbatore International Airport have been intensified, limiting private vehicles and taxis between 12 PM and 3 PM for smoother operations during the Prime Minister's visit.

Tamil Nadu is pivotal in India's agricultural landscape, holding third place in overall production with a 9.18% share for 2023-24. The state excels in floriculture, secures the second position in livestock with a 13.96% share, and plays a vital role in spices (1.95%), fruits (6.50%), vegetables (4.62%), and plantations (25.40%). This summit offers a venue for experts to exchange ideas and tactics aimed at enhancing agricultural output and elevating food exports, which amounted to Rs 2,43,042 crore for 2024-25 as per government data.

The South India Natural Farming Summit aims to motivate farmers towards organic and sustainable methodologies, driving productivity while safeguarding the environment. With increasing global focus on sustainable food production, the event showcases India's initiative in promoting natural farming techniques while equipping farmers with modern insights, government backing, and innovative approaches.

This summit not only honors Nammalvar's legacy but also heralds a new phase in India's agricultural journey, concentrating on sustainability, efficiency, and export capability—making it an essential event for farmers, decision-makers, and industry players alike.
