Intensified Search for Pankaj Lamba in Connection with Harshita Brella's Murder

Post by : Raina Nasser

The search for Pankaj Lamba, the husband implicated in the murder of Harshita Brella, is intensifying across the UK. Harshita, 24, was found strangled in the boot of a car in Ilford, East London, on November 14, 2024, with indications that her killing occurred days prior in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Following the incident, Lamba fled to India and has since evaded capture, prompting UK law enforcement to initiate inquiries within India. Sources indicate that he had been running a snack and vegetable shop near his childhood home in Delhi, where he maintained a low profile, often concealed and accompanied by a woman and child. This shop has now ceased operations and has been replaced by an egg store.

Both originally from Delhi, Harshita and Lamba moved to the UK earlier in 2024. Pankaj faced charges in March for murder, rape, sexual assault, and coercive control. Despite these allegations, he had previously been granted bail stemming from earlier domestic abuse claims made by Harshita, with conditions that expired just before her tragic death.

Harshita's family has voiced their frustration with the authorities’ response. Her mother, Sudesh Kumari, expressed her anguish and demanded accountability, stating, “Why has her killer not been apprehended? Neither the UK nor Indian governments seem to be taking action. I seek justice for my daughter to find solace.” Her sister, Sonia Dabas, has criticized the governmental inactiveness related to the case, highlighting their dismay over the lack of effective action from both countries.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is currently evaluating the actions of four officers from Northamptonshire Police regarding their handling of Harshita's domestic abuse reports. The IOPC's findings have been finalized and forwarded to the police department, with an official response anticipated by mid-November.

As efforts to locate Lamba continue, UK authorities urge the public to come forward with any information regarding his current location, stressing the importance of securing justice for Harshita Brella.
