Palestinian Minister Celebrates UN Resolution as Initial Move for Gaza Stability

Post by : Raina Nasser

The United Nations Security Council has officially endorsed a resolution supporting U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed strategy to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin has described the decision as a “necessary first step” toward durable peace.

Passed on Monday, the resolution calls for a multinational security presence in Gaza to maintain order and prevent further escalations. It invites member nations to join a newly formed Board of Peace tasked with overseeing Gaza’s reconstruction and economic revival, which has faced severe destruction due to years of hostilities.

Speaking from Ramallah, Shahin highlighted that this resolution signifies advancement, but cautioned it is just the start of a lengthy process toward achieving peace. “This resolution is pivotal for the people of Gaza. It lays out a framework for security, governance, and rebuilding; however, its actual success will depend on the commitment of the international community and all involved parties,” he stated.

Central to the resolution is the U.S.-drafted plan that outlines steps for the demilitarization of conflict-prone areas, humanitarian aid distribution, and staged rebuilding efforts. Furthermore, it foresees a governance model to oversee reconstruction projects, aimed at restoring essential services such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education across Gaza.

Diplomatic experts note that despite substantial international backing for the resolution, on-the-ground engagement remains a challenge. The plan does not tackle deeper political tensions between Israel and Palestinian leaders, potentially complicating its execution. Nonetheless, advocates feel that the inclusion of a multinational security force and the Board of Peace provides a structured approach to ensure compliance.

Shahin reiterated the necessity for global collaboration. “The Security Council’s decision is a step in the right direction, but real peace hinges on the active participation of member states to guarantee security, rebuilding, and economic revitalization. This is an opportunity for the global community to assist Gaza in overcoming its devastation and establishing a foundation for a sustainable future,” he remarked.

The resolution has sparked cautious optimism among humanitarian organizations, which have highlighted the profound toll the conflict has taken on Gaza’s civilian population. Years of intermittent fighting have resulted in decimated infrastructure, high unemployment rates, and widespread displacement. Experts assert that coordinated international efforts, as outlined in the plan, are vital to avert further humanitarian disasters and stabilize the region.

With the Security Council’s endorsement, the Trump-backed peace initiative now shifts to the implementation phase—where global actors must closely collaborate with local authorities in Gaza, Israel, and neighboring countries to ensure tangible improvements for civilians and sustained regional stability.

The approval of this resolution marks a significant diplomatic development in a conflict that has resulted in thousands of casualties, widespread displacement, and destabilization throughout the Middle East. Although considerable challenges still exist, the Security Council’s actions provide a hopeful indication that structured international intervention might finally pave a way for Gaza toward peace, security, and recovery.
