Pakistan Sends Military Support to Ensure Sri Lanka Cricket Team's Safety After Islamabad Attack

Post by : Raina Nasser

In a decisive action, Pakistan has mobilized army and paramilitary forces to ensure the safety of Sri Lanka's cricket team following a tragic suicide bombing in Islamabad, announced Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday. This deployment comes in light of rising security apprehensions during the ongoing cricket series.

During a live televised session in parliament, Minister Naqvi indicated that Army Chief Asim Munir directly assured Sri Lankan Defence Minister Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon about the team's protection. This indicates Pakistan's sincere commitment to the safety of international sports delegations within its borders.

The military deployment follows a series of recent violent incidents, including the bombing which has raised considerable concern for the security of distinguished visitors. In response, Pakistan has heightened security measures in key urban areas, focusing on the protection of foreign diplomats, athletes, and other vulnerable targets.

Authorities have confirmed that the army and paramilitary personnel are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure uninterrupted protection for the Sri Lankan cricket squad, allowing their movements and matches to continue smoothly.

This initiative highlights Pakistan’s endeavor to reassure international teams and visitors of their safety, reaffirming its determination to maintain security despite the region's ongoing challenges. The cricket community has responded positively to the increased security protocols aimed at safeguarding individuals involved in the sport.

Officials continue to carefully monitor the environment and have called for public vigilance, reiterating that robust security measures are firmly established for all incoming international guests.
