OpenAI has initiated its inaugural nationwide campaign for ChatGPT in India, designed to enhance AI accessibility and localization for users throughout the country. This campaign will roll out over the coming weeks across television, OTT platforms, digital spaces, print media, and outdoor advertising, ensuring widespread visibility.
Emphasizing support for regional languages and voice-first interactions, the campaign showcases how ChatGPT assists with learning, preparation, and creative endeavors in the languages most comfortable for users. This initiative builds upon recent strategies targeted at India, including the launch of Study Mode for learners, the affordable ChatGPT Go subscription, and IndQA, which evaluates AI performance in various Indian languages and cultural contexts.
At the center of the campaign are two short films directed by renowned photographer and filmmaker Bharat Sikka. These cinematic pieces capture relatable Indian experiences, illustrating how ChatGPT enables users to build confidence and tackle obstacles. The films will be available in seven languages: Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu, underlining ChatGPT’s commitment to localization.
Sheeladitya Mohanty, Head of Marketing – India at OpenAI, stated, “Our aim is to make ChatGPT a natural, intuitive, and culturally sensitive tool in Indian languages. This campaign showcases authentic stories of individuals utilizing ChatGPT for learning, creativity, and communication in their preferred languages.”
The initial film, now released, portrays a young woman preparing for a job interview with the help of ChatGPT. The videos are currently live on YouTube and Instagram, and will also feature on television, streaming services, print publications, and outdoor media, maximizing audience engagement.
Moreover, OpenAI highlighted that ChatGPT Go has been accessible at no cost for a year to eligible users in India since early November. This offer, available via web, Android, and iOS sign-ups, allows a broader audience to explore the platform's AI capabilities across various devices.
