As Stranger Things approaches its fifth and final season, Noah Schnapp, who rose to fame as a child actor, is taking a moment to reflect on his journey. The ending of the series evokes a deep emotional response from him, as it has significantly influenced both his career and personal life.
One of the most valuable outcomes of this experience for Noah is his friendship with Millie Bobby Brown, known for her role as Eleven. Beginning their friendship as young teens faced with sudden fame, their relationship has blossomed, evolving into a sibling-like bond characterized by trust and loyalty.
Noah compares their real-life relationship to their on-screen characters, saying, “Their loyalty to each other is something I love. On the show, we played siblings, and we even joke about being triplets now. I truly view Millie as both my on-screen sister and my off-screen confidant.”
He expresses particular appreciation for Millie's honesty, stating she is the one person whose advice he readily accepts. “When others offer me advice, I often question their motives. But with Millie, I know she speaks purely and truthfully. Her grounding presence keeps me connected to my authentic self.”
Noah acknowledges Millie's influence on helping him retain his sense of wonder and innocence, despite the industry's pressures. “It’s easy to lose that childlike spark growing up in this environment. But she always brings me back to my genuine self, reminding me that part of that joyful kid still exists within me.”
The experience of maturing in the public eye is filled with unique challenges. He recalls how young actors often face teasing among friends, but for him, the entire world was watching. Personal details, including aspects of his identity, became subjects of public discussion well before he was ready.
Noah admits that the pressure to always appear mature and composed was daunting. “In a small town, your friends tease you, but when dealing with millions of viewers, the scrutiny is immense. There’s an expectation to act like an adult while still discovering who you are.”
However, Noah finds solace in the companionship of his co-stars—Millie, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo—who understand the pressures and fears he faced. “While it was challenging, it was also really positive. My co-stars helped rebuild my confidence when scrutiny brought me down, and growing alongside them kept me grounded.”
As the series draws to a close, Noah feels an amalgamation of nostalgia and gratitude. He acknowledges that Stranger Things has not only shaped his career but also molded who he is, creating lasting relationships and teaching him resilience. While parting ways is bittersweet, he expresses immense gratitude for the incredible journey he has experienced.
