Wadi Al Qarha Nature Reserve Established in Sharjah with Stringent Regulations

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has announced the creation of the new “Wadi Al Qarha” Nature Reserve in the emirate. This initiative is focused on safeguarding the area's environmental integrity, wildlife, and natural beauty.

The official decree outlines the reserve's boundaries, which will be established based on an authorized map. This legislation enforces stringent guidelines to avert activities that may endanger the fragile ecosystem or disrupt local wildlife.

Prohibited actions within the reserve are explicitly defined. Hunting, harming, or killing animals is banned unless explicitly permitted by environmental regulations. The introduction of non-native species is also forbidden.

Any forms of damage to natural habitats, geological formations, or breeding grounds for various plants and animals are not permitted. Polluting air, soil, or water within the reserve is strictly outlawed, along with any military activities such as shooting drills.

Activities that may harm wildlife, including cutting or removing trees, damaging soil, or engaging in recreational or sports activities, are also barred. Construction, road development, or agricultural activities are only permissible with special authorization from the relevant authorities.

The decree emphasizes the need for equilibrium within the reserve. Surrounding areas also receive protection, necessitating official consent for any projects that may impact the environment.

This legislation aligns with Federal Law No. 24 of 1999, which mandates the protection of all living creatures, including those that rely on the reserve for breeding or refuge.

Management of the reserve will be the responsibility of local authorities, who will coordinate with municipal bodies and Sharjah Police to enforce regulations and address violations.

Penalties will apply to rule violators, requiring them to cover any costs associated with environmental damage. This recent decree emphasizes Sharjah’s commitment to conserving its natural resources and fostering biodiversity for future generations.
