Ottawa's Skyline Set to Rise with New 50-Storey Tower Near Dow’s Lake

Post by : Mina Rahman

A landmark development is on the horizon for Ottawa, with the approval of a 50-storey mixed-use tower poised to become the city’s tallest. Located at 829 Carling Avenue, this striking structure will overlook Dow’s Lake and is conveniently situated near the Dow’s Lake O-Train Station and the future Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.

The building will encompass 503 residential units, featuring an assortment of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. It will also provide 196 parking spots along with 482 spaces for bicycles. Spanning 300 square metres, the ground floor will include commercial space along Preston Street, promoting an engaging streetscape, while residential and office access will be prioritized from Carling Avenue.

Initially envisioned as a 60-storey tower back in 2021, the project has been modified to its current height of 50 storeys to align with the local architectural context. This new tower will stand in close proximity to Ottawa’s tallest building, the Claridge Icon, which features 45 storeys and was completed in 2022.

City planners emphasize the importance of this new high-rise in revitalizing an underused area into a dynamic, high-density hub that will promote walking and foster the city’s mixed-use neighborhoods.

This project marks a significant step forward for Ottawa’s architectural landscape, seamlessly blending modern design with urban convenience, and ensuring easy access to transportation and healthcare services.
