In a remarkable crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, law enforcement officials have seized a substantial quantity of heroin near the India–Myanmar border in Manipur, apprehending two suspects connected to an international narcotics network.
This seizure was made possible through targeted intelligence, prompting a joint operation that intercepted a vehicle in a border area. A thorough search of the automobile yielded 7.31 kilograms of heroin, cleverly disguised within 638 plastic soap containers to elude detection.
The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs approaches ₹15 crore in the global illegal market. Early investigations suggest that the heroin was sourced from the Haichin region of Myanmar and routed through dense forest paths in Manipur, designed to outsmart security personnel.
The apprehended individuals, originating from the Churachandpur district, reportedly navigated remote woodland trails and lesser-known routes to escape routine surveillance. Authorities noted that increased vigilance on established smuggling corridors has compelled traffickers to resort to more perilous and secluded passages.
In response, security forces have heightened monitoring efforts in the border zones and reiterated their determination to tackle drug networks operating across international frontiers.
