Mulberry Leaf Extract: A Daily Supplement for Blood Sugar Control, Says French Biochemist

Post by : Saif Nasser

French biochemist Jessie Inchauspe, famously dubbed the “Glucose Goddess” on social media, promotes mulberry leaf extract as her top daily supplement. She claims it may aid in managing blood sugar levels and mitigate glucose surges post-meal.

Inchauspe recommends a daily intake of 250 milligrams of mulberry leaf extract for a period of two months to observe beneficial effects. She argues that it can lead to reductions in fasting blood sugar, enhance HbA1c, and lower fasting insulin levels, contributing to improved long-term blood sugar management.

The key ingredient, DNJ, found in mulberry leaves, slows carbohydrate conversion into sugar. This mechanism allows for a gradual release of sugar into the bloodstream, preventing sudden spikes in blood glucose levels.

Inchauspe's supplement also incorporates lemon extract, which she states may enhance the secretion of GLP-1, a hormone that regulates appetite and aids in blood sugar management.

Despite its advantages, Jessie emphasizes that this supplement should complement, not replace, a balanced diet. She terms it “extra support” for those with demanding schedules or while traveling.

A significant caution she stresses is that pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid mulberry leaf extract, as its safety in these groups remains unverified.

Healthcare professionals maintain that while such supplements might be beneficial, they do not serve as a substitute for medical treatment and should be taken under professional supervision. Further scientific research remains essential for comprehensive validation of these health claims.
