Mubadala Energy has entered into a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a crucial entity in Indonesia's national electricity framework, to supply gas from fields situated in the Andaman Sea. This significant agreement is pivotal as Indonesia strategizes to bolster its energy security and lessen its dependence on imported fuels.
The key objective of this collaboration is to enhance Indonesia's energy resilience. Through this partnership, Mubadala Energy and PLN EPI aspire to diminish the nation's reliance on LNG imports by utilizing natural gas sourced locally. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes identifying long-term, sustainable solutions to cater to Indonesia’s escalating energy requirements.
The HoA identifies gas supply priorities for North Sumatra and Aceh. Notably, the Tangkulo gas field, which lies approximately 65 kilometers from North Sumatra and boasts over 2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas reserves, emerges as a crucial asset to fulfilling Indonesia’s future energy needs.
Abdulla Bu Ali, the President Director of Mubadala Energy Indonesia, emphasized that this agreement reflects the company’s dedication to Indonesia. He stated that this alliance is essential for delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions. Furthermore, he described the deal as a significant advancement in the development of the Tangkulo gas project located in the South Andaman Sea.
As Indonesia endeavors to enhance its energy infrastructure and diversify its supply sources, this partnership combines Mubadala Energy’s extensive international experience with PLN EPI’s robust local insight. Together, they aim to provide a consistent and sustainable energy supply to millions of Indonesians over time.
Rakhmad Dewanto, President Director of PLN EPI, expressed enthusiasm about the advancement of the Tangkulo gas field. He stated that this partnership would bolster Indonesia’s power sector, steering the nation towards cleaner, more secure energy alternatives.
The agreement was observed by Djoko Siswanto, Chairman of SKK Migas, who noted its significance as a milestone for the Tangkulo Project. The HoA will steer subsequent discussions regarding technical and commercial specifics, reinforcing the commitments of both companies toward securing Indonesia’s energy future.
