Moderate 3.6-Magnitude Quake Hits Upper Siang, Arunachal Pradesh

Post by : Raina Nasser

In the early hours of Tuesday, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake shook Upper Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the tremor was detected at 2:07 am IST.

The seismic event occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter identified at coordinates 28.85°N latitude and 95.24°E longitude. The NCS confirmed these details via a statement on X, emphasizing the earthquake's location.

As of now, local authorities have reported no damages or injuries, and they are keeping a close watch to evaluate the ramifications of this geological event. The northeastern region is known for such mild tremors as it lies in a high-seismic zone.

Experts explain that shallower earthquakes often result in more intense ground shaking compared to their deeper counterparts. The shorter distance seismic waves travel to the surface can amplify noticeable shaking, potentially posing risks to buildings based on population density and structural resilience.

This earthquake heightens ongoing concerns about seismic activity in Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring northeastern states, where minor to moderate tremors are routinely monitored. Authorities urge residents to stay informed about safety practices in earthquake-sensitive areas.
