Renowned model and fitness advocate Milind Soman recently celebrated his 60th birthday, proving that age is merely a state of mind. He argues that true fitness transcends mere physicality, highlighting the importance of attitude and daily choices in one's life. According to Milind, age perception is fundamentally rooted in an individual’s mindset rather than their physical appearance.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Milind stated, “Your attitude determines your age, not your body.” He noted that it's common to see younger individuals feeling listless while older people approach their day with enthusiasm. Life, he believes, is about joyfully embracing each moment rather than battling the passage of time.
Soman is known for undertaking grueling physical challenges, famously conquering the Ironman competition at 50, regarded as one of the toughest fitness challenges globally. He accomplished this feat again at 60, and also recently embarked on the #FitIndianRun challenge, which involved running and cycling a staggering 330 kilometers through mountainous terrain.
Reflecting on his first Ironman experience, Milind described it as a significant test of willpower. However, by the time he faced the challenge for the second time at 60, he considered it a harmony of mental balance, physical condition, discipline, and consistency. He emphasizes that aging is not a hindrance; rather, a lack of discipline can be detrimental.
Milind adheres to a straightforward and nutritious diet, starting his mornings with fruit and opting for simple vegetarian meals at lunch and dinner. He avoids meat as it complicates digestion, believing that a clean, natural diet strengthens the body.
He finds motivation in actor Shah Rukh Khan, who also reached the milestone of 60 while remaining vibrant and successful. Milind observed that many today reject age as a limitation, prioritizing positive experiences and health instead.
For Soman, maintaining a youthful spirit means managing to accomplish simple yet demanding tasks with ease, from running barefoot to swimming long distances or scaling hills. He insists that the objective is not solely about aesthetics; it’s about feeling vibrant and liberated in one’s own body.
