Mexican Navy Aircraft Tragedy: Six Lives Lost, Child Confirmed Among Victims

Post by : Mina Rahman

On Tuesday afternoon, the Mexican Navy confirmed the recovery of a missing passenger's body, bringing the total fatalities to six following a recent military aircraft crash.

The doomed aircraft, which took off with eight individuals aboard, crashed on Monday. Reports indicate that two passengers managed to survive the ordeal and are currently stable under medical supervision.

President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged that a two-year-old child was among the deceased during her morning press conference. She offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing that the flight was transporting medical staff, Navy members, and family members accompanying the child.

As reported by local media outlet N+, the young child suffered severe third-degree burns due to an incident involving boiling water. Hospitals in the child’s hometown of Escárcega were unable to provide the necessary treatment, leading plans for a transfer to a specialized burn facility.

The family subsequently received assistance from the Michou y Mau Foundation based in Mérida, which focuses on supporting children with critical burn injuries. In certain cases, this organization facilitates treatment in facilities located in Galveston, Texas.

Further information from authorities in Galveston remains pending. The Mexican Navy has yet to reveal the specifics surrounding the crash's cause.

President Sheinbaum announced that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway, with close collaboration from US officials to clarify what transpired in the final moments when the aircraft lost communication with ground control.

US Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, expressed condolences, offering thoughts and prayers for all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident.
