Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued Across Malaysia

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has announced a severe thunderstorm warning that extends over vast areas of Malaysia, impacting the Klang Valley, Kuala Lumpur, and various states throughout Peninsular and East Malaysia. Residents are urged to brace for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning, expected to persist throughout the afternoon.

This warning was officially disseminated at 3:00 PM local time on Tuesday and is set to remain in effect until a minimum of 6:00 PM. Meteorologists report that hazardous weather conditions are developing in multiple regions while storms in certain areas are predicted to escalate during the evening hours.

In the Klang Valley, the districts on alert include Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, and Sabak Bernam. Residents in Kuala Lumpur and nearby areas are advised to stay indoors whenever possible and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and lightning.

The northern regions of Peninsular Malaysia are also under the weather advisory, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms, strong winds, and intense rain in states like Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak. Weather experts caution that sudden downpours could impair visibility, heightening the risk of flash floods in low-lying urban areas.

On the east coast, several districts in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang have been included in the alert zone. Authorities warn that mountainous and coastal regions may experience unstable weather, with heavy rain potentially persisting for hours, contingent on local storm developments.

The alert also extends to East Malaysia, concerning areas in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan. Meteorologists predict widespread thunderstorm activity across numerous districts, especially in coastal and interior areas where atmospheric instability remains heighted.

According to MetMalaysia, thunderstorm warnings are issued when rainfall intensity is anticipated to surpass 20 millimeters per hour and last for over an hour. Officials indicated that these warnings could stay active for up to six hours, depending on weather conditions and storm trajectories.

The public has been urged to remain informed through official weather updates and to take precautionary actions during this warning period. Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid open areas, stay clear of large trees and electrical utilities, and drive cautiously on storm-affected or flooded roads.

Meteorological analysts emphasize that this storm system mirrors increasingly unstable weather patterns across Southeast Asia. Experts continue to track rainfall intensity and local storm activities, as authorities stand ready for potential flooding and weather disruptions.
