Mandhira Kapur Addresses Sunjay Kapur’s Divorce and Legacy Dispute

Post by : Mina Rahman

Mandhira Kapur, sibling of the late entrepreneur Sunjay Kapur, has publicly opened up about her brother’s separation from Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, providing clarity on the tumultuous family dynamics surrounding his estate. Sunjay and Karisma tied the knot in 2003, welcoming two children before their divorce in 2016. In 2017, Sunjay wed Priya Sachdev, with whom he shares a son.

In a revealing podcast discussion, Mandhira strongly countered allegations of Sunjay mistreating Karisma during their marriage. She stated, "He didn’t mistreat Lolo. Their split was tough, but all divorces come with trials. It’s unkind to malign the children, former spouses, or family. It’s easy to blame, but it takes strength to uphold the truth." She stressed the complicated nature of divorce and cautioned against sharing unverified details that might harm the family.

Expressing her concerns about Sunjay’s second union, Mandhira remarked, "I encouraged my father to allow Sunjay to marry Priya, hoping it would bring him joy. However, her demeanor has changed drastically post-marriage. I feel naive for having trusted her." Her comments suggest underlying family tensions, particularly regarding the late businessman’s legacy and choices.

The situation has escalated with a legal dispute concerning Sunjay Kapur’s estate. Karisma’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court contesting Priya Kapur’s will, alleging it is a forgery designed to cut them out of their inheritance. Notices have been issued to Priya and the will's executor, Shradha Suri Marwah, with a hearing set for December 16. Priya’s legal representatives argue that minor errors in spelling do not negate the will, and Sunjay’s signature remains uncontested. However, the children have raised questions about the signature’s authenticity, heightening the contention.

This ongoing dispute, coupled with Mandhira Kapur’s insights, has kept Sunjay Kapur’s personal affairs under the media spotlight. This scenario underscores the emotional strain of familial discord, inheritance clashes, and the complexities that emerge posthumously, especially involving high-profile figures. Experts caution that such legal challenges can lead to protracted familial rifts, particularly when children, new marriages, and estates come into play.

As court proceedings advance, the Kapur family is at the forefront of both public and media examination, with many eager to see how personal and legal conflicts will transpire. Mandhira’s remarks not only seek to vindicate her late brother’s name but also shed light on the private battles of one of Bollywood's most scrutinized families.
