Lumo Introduces Luxury Autonomous Robotaxi Service in Abu Dhabi

Lumo, a pioneering taxi service in the UAE focused on autonomous technology, has unveiled plans for a new luxury robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi. This innovative initiative is a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and Momenta, leveraging Lumo’s local operational expertise. The robotaxis are equipped with Momenta’s state-of-the-art L4 autonomous driving system and based on the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, marking it as the first scalable luxury robotaxi derived from a mass-produced premium vehicle.

Commercial operations are set to commence in Abu Dhabi next year, with plans to extend the robotaxi fleet into additional international markets thereafter. This partnership seeks to merge top-notch engineering with cutting-edge artificial intelligence and robust on-ground operational skills to forge the next evolution in smart transportation.

Faisal Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Bannai, whom advises the UAE President on Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, emphasized that the UAE is an ideal environment for developing future mobility solutions. He commended the nation's unyielding vision, swift advancements, and strong dedication to embracing new technologies. He remarked that this collaboration embodies the pinnacle of engineering and autonomous technology merging into a unified ecosystem.

Mercedes-Benz CTO Joerg Burzer indicated that this partnership is setting new benchmarks in global mobility by developing high-end robotaxis centered around safety, comfort, and sophistication. He mentioned that the aim is to establish a new standard for intelligent transportation on a global scale.

Momenta CEO Xudong Cao clarified that this partnership brings together the legacy of Mercedes-Benz engineering, the AI prowess of Momenta, and Lumo’s operational excellence. He stated that the robotaxi service, which is powered by Momenta's R6 reinforcement learning model, aspires to offer a safe, premium, and intelligent mobility experience for passengers across the UAE and beyond.
