Tragic Landslide in Vietnam Claims 6 Lives, Injures 19

A devastating landslide occurred in central Vietnam on Sunday evening, impacting a bus with 32 passengers traveling from Da Lat to Nha Trang. According to local officials on Monday, the natural disaster claimed at least six lives and left 19 individuals injured.

The incident took place on the perilous Khanh Le Pass, a mountainous road notorious for landslides during intense rainfall. Reports confirm that two passengers are still trapped within the bus, which has been partially engulfed by earth and stones, as rescue teams work relentlessly to extract them.

Heavy rains inundating the central region of Vietnam prompted the landslide, tragically underlining the hazards that motorists encounter during the country's rainy season. Images shared by local sources reveal the roadway entirely obstructed by large amounts of soil and heavy boulders, complicating ongoing rescue efforts.

A local authority commented, “This section of the road becomes extremely perilous during heavy rains. We are deploying all necessary resources, including police, firefighters, and volunteers, to assist those trapped and care for the injured.”

Furthermore, in a related situation, three individuals remain unaccounted for in Danang following another landslide that occurred on Friday, amplifying concerns regarding the increasing effects of the persistent heavy rains and flooding in Vietnam.

In light of these events, the Vietnamese government is advising residents to exercise utmost caution in regions susceptible to landslides, while emergency response teams have been mobilized to keep watch over crucial routes and provide assistance promptly.

This heartbreaking bus incident highlights the escalating dangers of landslides in central Vietnam amidst the monsoon season, prompting authorities to advocate for heightened awareness, improved road safety measures, and better disaster preparedness to avert such tragedies in the future.
