Recently, Kyrgyzstan witnessed its inaugural international symposium focused on organ donation and transplantation in Bishkek. The event attracted premier scientists, surgeons, and medical professionals from over 10 countries, highlighting the nation’s commitment to enhancing its healthcare system and expanding sophisticated medical services in transplantology.
Ulan Mamatkanov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, addressed attendees and stressed the essential role of organ transplantation in modern medicine, emphasizing the significance of innovative treatment methods and international collaboration in the field.
Officials remarked that the symposium provided a vital forum for the exchange of medical knowledge, fostering professional collaboration, and adopting advanced global strategies in organ transplantation. The discussions concentrated on enhancing transplant systems, medical infrastructure, and the training of specialists capable of conducting complex transplant surgeries.
Data shared during the symposium revealed that healthcare funding in Kyrgyzstan has dramatically increased, surging from 21.5 billion soms in 2021 to an anticipated 52 billion soms by 2025. Additionally, authorities noted that healthcare workers' salaries have seen a rise as part of comprehensive reforms aimed at fortifying the national healthcare sector.
In the last three years, 55 kidney transplant surgeries have been performed through state funding, including 42 at the National Center for Motherhood and Child Protection and 13 at the Kyrgyz-Turkish Friendship Hospital named after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Moreover, Kyrgyzstan has successfully completed three liver transplants and conducted its first successful bone marrow transplant operation in 2024, showcasing important advancements in the country’s transplant medicine.
Experts at the symposium discussed contemporary methods concerning kidney, liver, and heart transplantation as well as the systems surrounding organ donation. Topics included anesthesia management, immunological compatibility, infectious safety, and the legal and ethical considerations in transplantation. Additionally, discussions emphasized pediatric transplantation and the importance of advanced training programs for the next generation of medical professionals.
Mamatkanov reinforced the government’s commitment to further developing transplant services, enhancing international medical partnerships, and investing in healthcare infrastructure to raise treatment quality and save more lives in the future.
