Kuala Lumpur City Hall has announced a new project named Projek Trafik Lancar aimed at tackling persistent traffic congestion across the city. This initiative will focus on enhancing crucial road networks in Segambut, Seputeh, and Wangsa Maju.
Mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud emphasized that this initiative represents a more forward-thinking approach to utilizing development funds. Income generated from new projects will be directly reinvested into bolstering adjacent infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and public amenities.
In Segambut, a significant feature of the plan involves the construction of a 562-meter roadway equipped with tunnel and bridge connections that will link Jalan Kiara 7 to the SPRINT Highway's Penchala Link. Work is set to commence within the next two months, with an anticipated completion period of about two years.
This upgrade aims to dramatically enhance traffic conditions in densely populated areas like Mont Kiara, which currently suffers from heavy congestion owing to numerous residential complexes. The new connection is poised to cut down travel time and alleviate pressure on heavily used routes serving many condominiums.
In Seputeh, DBKL is set to widen a critical exit from the New Pantai Expressway onto the KL-Seremban Highway from two lanes to three. This development will greatly assist drivers from Jalan Kuchai Maju, Jalan Desa, and Salak during peak traffic hours.
Additionally, Wangsa Maju is slated for improvements at the junction of Jalan 7/24 and MRR2, an area noted for both high traffic and accidents. Enhancements here are deemed essential for safety and efficiency.
Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh remarked that these upgrades have been eagerly awaited by the community since 2018, indicating a strong local desire for action. Construction is set to begin by June and is expected to last until late 2026, with temporary traffic diversions anticipated during this period.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to align infrastructural growth with urban development, ultimately improving daily commuting experiences for Kuala Lumpur's residents.
