Ranchi, November 29, 2025 – Indian cricket's luminaries, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are making their much-anticipated return to home soil as the team gears up to face South Africa in the opener of a three-match ODI series this Sunday. Leading up to the match, both players arrived early at the practice venue to refine their skills.
In the nets, Kohli exhibited his characteristic focus, impressing even young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. During a session with left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, Kohli struck a stunning aerial shot that left Pant cheering from behind the stumps, joyfully commenting, “Bhai ji, acha ball tha yeh. Tagda maar diya.” His energy hinted at a determination to deliver a strong performance, particularly after navigating the ups and downs of the recent ODI series in Australia.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, committed as ever, was seen engaged in a detailed conversation with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is anticipated to open the batting in place of Shubman Gill, nursing a neck injury. Both players keenly engaged in a variety of shots, focusing on both grounded and aerial techniques in preparation for the challenge posed by the Proteas.
The return of these seasoned players is viewed as a significant advantage for the Indian team. Stand-in captain KL Rahul emphasized their crucial role, noting that the presence of seasoned players like Kohli and Rohit not only bolsters on-field performance but also lifts team morale. “Their significance is immense at any time. Just having their presence and experience offers tremendous support to younger players and the overall team dynamics. So, we're thrilled they are back,” Rahul remarked.
Kohli's recent outings in Australia were a blend of challenges and achievements. After suffering two ducks in his first two ODIs, he bounced back with an unbeaten 74 runs in the series finale. Conversely, Rohit was named Player of the Series, showcasing his relentless consistency with a century and a half-century.
As the Indian team prepares for its first ODI encounter against South Africa, the combination of Kohli’s vigor and Rohit’s seasoned gameplay signals an exhilarating beginning to the series. Fans eagerly look forward to witnessing these two stalwarts lead India in a home series that marks an important step towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
