‘Kaantha’ Starring Dulquer Salmaan to Stream on Netflix from December 12

The retro thriller Kaantha, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani, and Rana Daggubati, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting December 12, shortly after its box office debut on November 14. Viewers can enjoy the film in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam, with the Kannada version titled Shaantha. Netflix has hailed the film as “A masterpiece, a mentor, and a murder. When pride turns into revenge, who will break first?”

Set in 1950s Madras, Kaantha is a captivating mystery that dives into the tensions within the Tamil film industry. Dulquer Salmaan portrays Thiruchengode Kalidasa Mahadevan, known as TKM, a superstar embroiled in a bitter feud with his former mentor Ayya, played by Samuthirakani, as they collaborate on a horror film. Their rivalry intensifies following a suspicious death on set, placing both men under the spotlight as prime suspects. Bhagyashri Borse plays Kumari, a rising actress trying to navigate the film industry’s challenges, while Rana Daggubati assumes the role of Inspector Phoenix, tasked with uncovering the truth behind the chaos.

The film enjoyed a successful run in theaters, grossing ₹35.36 crore globally. While reactions from critics have been mixed, Dulquer Salmaan's performance received wide acclaim, with many praising his talent amidst a narrative with ups and downs. Social media buzzed with enthusiasm for the OTT premiere, as audiences looked forward to rewatching the film and appreciating Bhagyashri Borse’s commendable portrayal.

Following typical trends in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Kaantha will transition to OTT roughly three to four weeks post-theatrical release, allowing fans immediate online access. The multi-language offerings by Netflix, including the Kannada Shaantha, are aimed at reaching diverse audience segments across regions.
