Post by : Mara Rahim

In a thrilling start to the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, Jordan secured a 2-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates at Al Bayt Stadium, earning the top spot in Group C. The match was filled with exciting moments, including dramatic penalties and standout performances that defined the opening stage of the tournament.

Jordan’s first goal emerged in the 20th minute after Ali Olwan converted a penalty awarded for a foul by UAE defender Khalid Al Dhahnahi on Yazan Al Naimat. This early advantage infused the team with confidence as they dominated play throughout the first half, creating numerous chances while applying pressure on the UAE. However, UAE’s Hamad Al Maqbali made an impressive save to deny another penalty opportunity just before halftime, keeping his team hopeful.

Despite facing a setback by losing a player to a red card, the UAE showed resilience and managed to level the score early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Bruno Oliveira sent a well-placed cross from Luan Pereira into the net, reviving UAE’s spirits and hinting at a potential comeback. Nevertheless, Jordan quickly regained momentum and recaptured the lead.

Jordan’s second goal came shortly after the hour mark, thanks to Yazan Al Naimat, who completed a sequence initiated by Nizar Al Rashdan. VAR review confirmed the goal, restoring Jordan’s lead to 2-1. Despite further opportunities, Jordan couldn't extend their advantage, while the UAE struggled to find the equalizer in the final minutes, ending the match with a narrow loss.

This result places Jordan at the helm of Group C, with a two-point lead over Egypt and Kuwait, who played to a draw of 1-1 earlier. For the UAE, the match revealed areas needing improvement, particularly in defensive strategies and converting scoring chances. Jordan’s strong performance showcased their capability to thrive under pressure and exploit their opponents' mistakes.

This victory marks a vital start for Jordan in the FIFA Arab Cup, exhibiting their competitive nature against formidable regional rivals. As the group stages continue, Jordan will strive to maintain their advantageous position, while the UAE will analyze the match for learning opportunities. Fans witnessed an engaging clash, rooted in skill and tenacity, setting the stage for subsequent encounters in the group. With this momentum, Jordan aims to continue on their positive trajectory toward the knockout rounds.
