During an emotional episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on November 11, Jimmy Kimmel paid heartfelt tribute to his dear friend and longtime bandleader, Cleto Escobedo II, who passed away earlier that day due to complications following a liver transplant. Kimmel was visibly shaken as he delivered what he called his most challenging monologue in nearly 23 years of broadcasting.
“This is the hardest monologue I’ve ever had to do,” Kimmel confessed, his voice quivering with sadness. “There have been many tough moments over the years, but this one truly takes the cake.”
The late-night host conveyed the profound sorrow that enveloped his team, stating, “We are all devastated by this news. It just doesn’t feel right.”
As reported by People, Kimmel and Escobedo's friendship spans back to their childhood, fostering a deep connection that only grew stronger through their collaborative efforts on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Kimmel also shared a poignant post on Instagram, expressing his grief. “Saying that we are heartbroken would be an understatement,” he wrote. “Cleto was an incredible friend, father, son, musician, and an extraordinary human being. We were inseparable since I was nine years old, and the opportunity to work alongside each other every day was a dream come true for both of us.”
Over the years, Escobedo's charm, wit, and musical flair made him a cherished figure on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, endearing him to fans and colleagues alike.
